Thomas S. Archer

July 14, 1952 — June 29, 2024

Mifflinburg

Thomas “Tom” Stephen Archer, 71, of Mifflinburg, passed away surrounded by his family and close friends on Saturday, June 29, 2024.

He was born July 14, 1952, in Bellefonte, a son of the late John “Jack” J. and Marguerite (Stopper) Archer, and grew up in State College. After graduating from State College High School in 1970, he worked in turf maintenance at Toftrees, State College, and other golf courses in Lancaster, and Phoenix, Arizona. Tom began his career as a skilled electrician, working many years at Dauphin Electric before starting his own business, Arch Electric, in Mifflinburg.

Tom discovered his love for the outdoors at an early age, spending many days fishing and hunting with his father. In addition to fishing, hunting, and camping, Tom also deeply loved music and imparted his gift of musicianship to his nephew, Alex, when he taught him to play the guitar as a young boy. Tom especially enjoyed bluegrass music and was a proud member of the West End Bluegrass Band for many years.

He was also a talented painter and enjoyed painting landscapes, wildlife, and portraits of his beloved dogs. Tom was gifted in many ways and will always be remembered for his sense of humor, love of music and the outdoors, story-telling, and big heart.

Surviving are his sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Geoffrey Dufford, of Selinsgrove; two nephews Alexander Dufford (Carol) of Portland, Oregon, and Matthew Dufford (Jennifer) of Catawissa; two great-nieces, Lily and Rosalyn Dufford, of Catawissa; and his loving girlfriend, Margaret Nyce-Kiester, of Mifflinburg.

He was preceded in death by his brother, John P. Archer.
