Walter C. Katherman, Sr., 92, of 103 Walnut St., Mifflinburg, entered into rest at 2:29 p.m., Saturday, January 20, 2024, at his home.
He was born September 6, 1931, in Glen Iron, a son of the late Charles and Margaret (Case) Katherman. On September 16, 1954, he married the former Jean A. Roat, who preceded him in death November 11, 2023.
Walter was a 1949 graduate of Mifflinburg High School.
He served in the Air Force from 1949 until his honorable discharge December 8, 1952, where he served with the 6164th Tactical Air Control in the Korean War. Walter then served in the Army National Guard until 1990.
Walter was a member of the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church.
He was employed as Borough Manager of the Borough of Mifflinburg for 19 years. Earlier in life, he worked as a bridge inspector for Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Walter was a member of the Mifflinburg Hose Company and served as an EMT for Mifflinburg Ambulance.
He enjoyed gardening, hit n miss engine shows, shell collecting at the beach, creating and painting craft projects, and spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Surviving are one son, Walter Katherman, Jr. of Mifflinburg; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Steve Paige of Winfield, Vicki and Curt Krebs of New Columbia, Beverly Reeder of Mifflinburg, and Ann Wagner and Gary Wenrick of Mifflinburg; 10 grandchildren, Adam Wagner, Brynn Long, Caitlynn Bergenstock, Kylar Krebs, Jordan Krebs, Madison Masden, Micah Reeder, Jonathan Reeder, Chris Reeder, and Nick Reeder; and 8 great-grandchildren, Acelynn Wagner, Addlee Wagner, Zoey Long, Brock Long, Kamden Krebs, Katalina Kline, Kayden Kline, and Kaleb Kline; and one brother Charles “Bill” Katherman of Mifflinburg.,
He was preceded in death by six brothers, John, James, Benjamin, Robert, Merill and Don Katherman; two sisters, Mary Katherman, and Gretna Kerlin; one daughter-in-law, Cathy Katherman; and one son-in-law, Paul Reeder Jr.
Family and friends are welcome from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 24, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg, where the funeral service will be conducted at 11, with Rev. Robert Rice, officiating.
Burial will be in the Lincoln Chapel Cemetery with military honors accorded by the American Legion Post 410 and VFW Post 1964, both of Mifflinburg.
