Wesley F. Watters, Jr., 88, Millmont
Wesley Franklin Watters, Jr., 88, of 1815 Kaiser Run Rd., since 1950, entered into rest at 1:45 p.m., Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at the Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove.
He was born October 15, 1922, in Milton, a son of the late Wesley Franklin, Sr., and Florence C. (Bruch) Watters. On January 6, 1945, in the St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Millmont, he married the former Betty Jane Erdley, who preceded him in death May 22, 1993.
Wesley was a 1941 graduate of Milton High School.
He served in the Marine Corps, 1st Marine Division, 4th Battalion, during WWII from December 16, 1941 until his honorable discharge December 17, 1945. During this time, he participated in action against the enemy at Guadalcanal, and Cape Gloucester, New Britain, and earned the Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation for Service in the Solomon Islands, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal.
Wesley was employed as an automotive equipment foreman at Laurelton Center, for 32 years, until he retired in 1983. Earlier in life, he worked at Shively's Meat Market, Mifflinburg, and was the caretaker of Camp Mount Luther, Mifflinburg, where "Watter's Nature Trail" is named in his honor.
He was an active member of Christ's United Lutheran Church, Millmont, since 1963.
Wesley was a life member of the Buffalo Valley Sportsmens Club, Mifflinburg, and a 50 year member of the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and assisting with the preparation of meals for the Church and Sportsmens Club events.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas W. and Karen L. Watters of Mifflinburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly A. and Dale K. Berger of Lewisburg, and Sharon L. and Walter J. Smead of Birmingham, Alabama; five grandchildren and their spouses, John M. and Jennifer Bower of Lebanon, Jason D. Berger of Bethlehem, Monica A. Berger of Lewisburg, Kendrah L. and L. Ramon Beiler of New Berlin, and Nichole L. and Anthony D. Pirraglia of Milton; and seven great grandchildren, Johnathan Sharp, Jenna Bower, Evan Tribble, Alexander Pirraglia, Benjamin Pirraglia, Joel Bergerstock, and Jaiden Beiler.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Mae Ruhl.
A memorial service with interment at the Hartleton Cemetery and military honors by the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410, will be conducted privately at the convenience of the family.
